At Ormond Neuroscience, we’ve been using vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) with our patients for a few years. Remarkably, it has turned out to be an amazing treatment that benefits patients with a range of different brain-related conditions. These include recovery from stroke, traumatic brain injury and other conditions that have caused damage to brain tissue. Moreover, VNS is also very helpful for patients who are suffering from depression, high levels of anxiety, bad mood swings, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Additionally, we have had spectacular success with controlling epileptic seizures in drug-resistant patients. Likewise, patients with atrial fibrillation have benefitted to an astonishing degree. Furthermore, vagal nerve stimulation has benefits for memory and cognitive functioning, which is very useful in older patients with mild cogntivie impairment or those in the early stages of dementia. Additionally, scientific research shows that VNS is useful for:
- Chronic pain
- Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis
- Long Covid
- Meniere disease
- Migraine
- Freezing gait in Parkinson’s disease
- Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome
- Tinnitus
- Vertigo
Vagal Nerve Stimulation Pages
So far, we have created three pages on our website that deal with different aspects of VNS. These are as follows:
- A general discussion about vagal nerve stimulation.
- A description of the use of VNS in mood disorders, including anxiety, bipolar mood disorder, depression, occupational burnout, post-traumatic stress disorder.
- A discussion about using VNS to promote neuroplasticity to maximise recovery in patients who have suffered brain injuries, strokes, brain tumours and related conditions.
